FAQ's concerning the escalino

What is the difference between the c-max and the escalino?

The escalino could be called c-max’s “little brother”. The c-max is exceptional because of its carrying capacity of up to 120 kg and its climbing capacity of up to 300 steps with one battery charge. For the escalino we trimmed down these features to 100 kg and 8 stories per battery charge.

What’s the difference between the escalino and the s-max?

The escalino is like the c-max a push wheelchair with stair climbing function. It is intended for persons who can still walk yet have problems climbing stairs or for somebody who can leave his/her own wheelchair and sit in the escalino to climb stairs.
The s-max, on the other hand, is a stair climbing device which can be adapted and attached to somebody’s personal wheelchair. We affix a holding device to the wheelchair so the stair climber s-max can be hooked onto the wheelchair whenever it is needed. Once the stair climbing is finished, the s-max can be quickly and easily removed from the wheelchair, if so desired.

What do I have to do to get an AAT product? (only valid for Germany)

Step 1: Presentation
As soon as you contact us, we will arrange for a free presentation. (Call your local dealer in your country). Our representative or your local dealer will present the desired device to you at your convenience at your home. The result of said presentation will be documented in writing.

Step 2: Prescription
Have your medical doctor write a prescription specifically stating the product’s name (e.g. pushing and braking aid v-max). Since the health reform in 2004 members of insurance companies must pay 10% of the costs for aids, however at the most 10 Euros, for example you receive an aid for 5000 Euros you merely pay 10 Euros yourself. The doctor’s budget is left untouched by products classified as aids, which applies to all our products.

Step 3: Application
The written report of the presentation will be sent to the store for medical equipment of your choice. Said store will give you an estimate and submits it to your medical insurance (social institution, social security, etc.)

Step 4: Approval
If your insurance company accepts the costs, you may receive a new or a used device. If you receive a new device, your local dealer orders the desired device and the necessary accessories. In case your application is not granted, we are happy to support you with useful advice. Please contact your local dealer or call us at 0049-7431-12950.

Step 5: Delivery / Instruction
A new device is always delivered by an AAT representative or a trained dealer who will instruct you in the use of the device. There may never be a delivery without instruction! Should this ever happen, please contact AAT Alber Antriebstechnik GmbH. At the end of the instruction session you or your attendant signs a form confirming thorough instruction.

Can all stairs be climbed by the AAT stair climbers?

The stair climber needs a step depth of 12 cm. The height of a step may not exceed 21 cm for the escalino and 22 cm for the s-max. As for the s-max and the c-max, it is possible to increase the climbing height for extra charge. However, it does not matter whether the stairs are winding or straight, made of wood, stone, metal or even covered with carpet. The space needed or the size of a landing may not be generally defined. It is necessary to show the device to you at your home and check out the particular conditions there.

What do I have to pay for an Alber product? (only valid for Germany)

Almost all Alber products are acknowledged by insurance companies and approved as aids (application for escalino is in process). Members of insurance companies must pay 10% of the aid’s costs, however at the most 10 Euro, e.g. if your aid costs 5000 Euros, you merely pay 10 Euros yourself.

Where can I take a look at AAT products?

Our representatives have all our products on display. We are happy to visit you and introduce the various devices to you at your home. Often the stores for medical aids have their own demonstration devices, so you can also inspect them at said stores.

KCan I buy the aids directly at AAT?

Unfortunately this is not possible. Please contact your local dealer or visit a store for medical aids.
